She said police were not expect a flare-up of violence on Wednesday but would be patrolling the area.
Kweza also stressed that the situation on Tuesday night was brought under control with the help of the community.
The situation is said to have grown tense following a community meeting about foreigners in the area.
The South African National Civic Organisation called for “increased police deployments to quell renewed violence in Katlehong in the East Rand”.
“We are extremely concerned about the resurgence of violence and call on our communities not to allow criminality to gain the upper-hand and undermine the rule of law‚” said spokesperson Jabu Mahlangu.
Mahlangu reiterated an appeal “to the community to allow the law to take its course for justice to be delivered against the Pakistani shopowner that supposedly gunned down a woman and a child two weeks ago”.
