Little Swift Chalets- tranquil par excellence!

AHA, that’s what I needed,” exclaimed a student lawyer, as she brushed her hair-singles, sipping her favourite drink.

Her eyes popped out as we hit off-road headed towards Little Swift Chalets Lodge in Skeerpoort Valley, overlooking Magaliesberg, in the evening. It is perched on 50hectares of game and farming land with 2.4kms of Magalies River frontage.

It was her birthday and humbly asked ‘if I could take her and friends for a road trip’ and voila!

Yes, we sang and danced (very little -pun intended) until wee hours of the morning- without any disturbance or agitation to other guests.

Little Swift Chalets Lodge (nothing little about it) is a mere 40minutes to an hour’s drive from Jozi. It offers the valley, natural beauty, tranquility and some activities (though we did not have time to experience that) in and around the area, as we were only hosted for a night.

The lodge itself, is vast and abound with wildlife and farming livestock. Wild animals include but are not limited to, zebra, wildebeest, impala, nyala and so, on.

“I’m loving every minute of this outing. Peaceful and tranquil, its all I needed as I prepare for my exams,” she went on, as the entourage went for a morning swim at the lapa.

Each chalet is between 30m-50m apart, overlooking the river and offering complete privacy providing an ideal venue for a break-away weekend with either family or friends.

Our hosts Jann and Ephilene, made sure nothing ‘bothers us’; be it those free roaming Boks or Impalas. ‘Hawu’, I exclaimed upon hearing on such.

With winter bites having crapped in, the Lapa – communal area, is in the center of the horseshoe, slightly elevated which has a whirl pool, an infinity swimming pool, a grassy area ideal for a braai and the inside braai and serving counter, ideal for chilly winters. So, as you prepare to pay this awe-inspiring venue a visit, make sure you only bring that ‘special drink’ to deal with winter bites!

Little Swift comprises of only 8 chalets that is fully self-catering.

The open plan design accommodates two adults in a queen size bed, has a corner bath which overlooks the river yet; is totally private from any angle, an inside fireplace and kitchenette and an outside private patio braai.

The chalets are equipped with a fridge, double hot plate stove, microwave, linen, cutlery and crockery.

For a discerning traveller like yours truly, the venue also provides:

• Walks
• Bird watching
• Game viewing
• Swimming
• Fishing

To round up the weekend, I took the ladies to my friends’ house that is only 30m drive from Little Swift for a boat cruise –they enjoyed every valuable minute of it.

Yes, it’s an eco-system area so everything and anything that side of the world is lush!

I shall be back soon, here’ in reference to Little Swift, promised one of the lady’s in her swimming gear, chasing one of the Impalas that was peeping outside their chalet.
