Mahindra powers Kings into the ’24 SA20 edition

THEY might have not performed as expected in the first edition of the SA20 in 2023, but Joburg Kings should up the ante for the 2024 instalment.

This will be motivated by the vehicle sponsorship of Mahindra for the Joburg team based, penned in time ahead of their opening fixture against defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape in Gqeberha on January 10.

The partnership will give Mahindra visibility on the back of Joburg Super Kings’ jersey.

Neither details on the value of the deal, or how long is it were revealed.

Speaking on the partnership with Joburg Super Kings, Rajesh Gupta, CEO Mahindra South Africa said: “Partnering with the Joburg Super Kings is not just about cricket; it’s about investing in the spirit of champions. The Super Kings are a growing global brand with wide popularity across South Africa.

“Sports teaches us authenticity, which is an integral part of our value system. Teamwork and partnerships which are essential on a cricket field are synonymous to the core values of Mahindra and the value proposition we offer to our customers. We are proud to be a part of this journey. We believe this will be a successful partnership.”

The team is led by an incredible Faf du Plessis, possess the dynamic bowling attack with tweakers Imran Tahir and Aaron Phangiso, as well as young quicks Gerald Coetzee and Nandre Burger. 

Joburg Super Kings is owned by five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings, and the outfit is a T20 franchise based out of Johannesburg.

Talking about the association, Ankit Baldi, Head franchise Joburg Super Kings said: “The Joburg Super Kings are pleased to partner with a global brand like Mahindra which has a strong presence in South Africa for two decades.

Support from local brands is crucial for the development of the league and thus the sport. It also syncs with our campaign theme – To Joburg We Belong – aiding us to get closer to the people in South Africa.
