The decision to fire him was taken today by the South African Football Association, for amongst others bringing the organization into disrepute.
Safa confirmed also Mashaba was found guilty of the following charges, in a hearing that took place over a period of five days:
Gross Misconduct/Professional Misconduct; Gross Insubordination/Professional Misconduct and Violation of the SAFA Communications Policy.
SAFA CE Dennis Mumble, in media statement on Thursday: “Due to the seriousness of the Coach’s actions, we had to release our Head Coach with immediate effect.
We shall immediately institute a search for a new head coach familiar with African football competition who will be expected to continue the quest to qualify for the world’s apex football competition. We ask all supporters to continue to support Bafana Bafana.”
Mumble further said they will begin in earnest to search for replacement, and his background should boast thick African football history.
The 66 year old Mashaba’s row with his employers happened in full view of the public after Bafana’s win 2-1 over Senegal in a World Cup qualifier, when “Mshege” disrespected his bosses by wagging his finger, not shaking hands and almost not conducting interview with media, the same media he took a swipe at on numerous occassions.
With World Cup qualifiers still on, it’s yet to be confirmed whether the technical team Owen da Gama, Thabo Senong and goalkeeper coach Lucky Shiburi, would be around to steer the team, obviously with the introduction of new coach.
However, Mashaba’s legal representative admitted they’re studying the outcome and will only apply their mind thereafter.
