Metro FM awards production on point. Winners revealed

ALL and sundry came to witness the mouth-watering 2024 MetroFM awards.

What a fete had by all, from young to old- dressed to the nines, as Mbombela Stadium, was shaken as if tsunami has just passed, over the weekend.

From pre-parties to the actual awards, all on point. As for production, it was out of this world, including the Xitsonga music that kept fans and guests on their feet.

One of SA’s best producer Oskido was acknowledged, so was Boom Shaka, led ably by age-defying Thembi, Theo and Junior, who also gave a resounding performance at the festival.

“I applaud Metro FM for awarding Oskido and Boom Shaka with Lifetime Achievement Awards. Oskido has inspired and moulded generations of artists in democratic South Africa. Boom Shaka’s legacy continues to shape and influence South African culture,” said Minister of Sport, Arts & Culture, Zizi Kodwa, who attended the awards ceremony.

Kabza Da Small won big on the evening, bagging four awards: Best Produced Album, Best Collaboration, Best Amapiano, and of course, Song of the Year.

As expected, Kabza does not entertain media interviews hence he’s absence at the awards ceremony, citing he’s “unwell” but he did feature at Friday’s pre-party. Your guess is just good as mine.

His fellows at Sony, Tyla was honoured with ‘The Global Icon’ award, so were the Thee Legacy- in the category of Best Duo/Group.

What gave me goose-bumps was the performances by Tswana-trio Cassper Nyovest, R&B singer Goapele Mohlabane and Khuli Chana. “I felt the world is my oyster after the performance with my hommies,” declared Cass to this reporter, who was bucket-sweating.

Each category winner received a cool R50 000; and Song of the Year winner R150 000.

Nondumiso Mabece, Santam Group Head of Brand, says they’re excited to have been part of this glamorous event.
