SA rowing team adds medals at the Olympics!

Having the last laugh. Team SA rowing pair (Men) Lawrence Brittain and Shaun Keeling, posing with their medals at the Olympics in Rio, yesterday.

SA duo, Shaun Keeling and Lawrence Brittain did the business after a difficult race managed to make their way to the podium to accept a well earned silver medal.

It is said SA rowing coach Roger Barrow gets so nervous, he doesn’t watch the finals his rowers are competing in.

So it was only in the last 100m when a fellow coach told him the men’s pair of Lawrence Brittain and Shaun Keeling had the silver medal in the bag that he turned to face a TV screen – away from the actual water.

“I didn’t watch the race. I walk in and have a look on the TV screen and then walk out,” admitted Barrow. “I’m just too nervous. I can’t cope. I found today and yesterday a little more stressful than usual.”

The BlitzBoks sevens rugby team trounced giant-killing Japan 54-14 in the playoff for third place‚ having earlier lost narrowly to Great Britain 5-7 in the semifinals. For their effort they collected a bronze.

Meanwhile, Team SA continues to make steady progress at the Olympic Games and we hope to see medal tally increase in the coming days.

On Friday, Jaco Van Zyl and Reinhardt van Rensburg will be competing in the Golf and 800m men’s events respectively.

Caster Semenya will be taking to the track on Wednesday.
