Soweto Int’l Jazz fest returns

Recognized for aiming to bridge the gap in African derived music and culture, the festival overtly promotes a cultural exchange between South African and International musicians.

The carefully curated line-up will consist of multiple genres and artists from South Africa, Caribbean and the USA.

They will be on display on three (3) stages at Joburg’s new destination for large-scale family events, the GOG Gardens Soweto.

Established in 2018, the festival is keen on celebrating a wide spectrum of South Africa’s favourite musical genres and cultures. It artfully combines the art of creating music with extraordinary performances, audience exchanges and a first-class lifestyle experience into an International music festival that will appeal to a variety of ages globally. Each day of the three-day festival will don a distinct theme:

June 14th – Young Kings/Queens Day; dedicated to the youth and will feature a healthy dose of Hip Hop, R&B and House Music.

June 15th –  International Day; will feature global acts with a multi genre approach.

June 16th – Inspirational Day; will feature Gospel and Jazz music.

The Soweto International Jazz Festival is also committed to promoting youth empowerment and women advancement, primarily with pre-events dedicate to the business development in the music industry for young entrepreneurs and networking master classes for existing and aspiring women small business owners.

An emphasis will be placed on social-fashion trends, food and urban lifestyle will brazenly be on display at this year’s Soweto International Jazz Festival. The musical philosophy of the festival is built on the celebration and promotions of amazing and accomplished artists.

The first wave of artists to be announced includes some of South Africa’s leading artists such as the legendary Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse; Jazz fusion guitarist Ernie Smith; highly celebrated breakout artist Lady Zamar; Micasa; Grammy award winning Soweto Gospel Choir and Internationally acclaimed Pieces of a Dream and Julian Vaughn.

A second wave of artists to be announced soon.
