A Johannesburg Municipality Police Department inspector, has confirmed participation in the 2023 theft of precious stones worth R14.9 million.
Known as witness K, she also implicated suspended EMPD acting chief, Commissioner Julius Mkhwanazi, whom at the time were both romantically involved.
During her damning testimony at the Madlanga Commission, witness K, gave account on the planning, execution and the end results of the theft that was carried out at the Killarney Mall, Johannesburg in 2023.
The plan also included each other’s cut since some Police members were also part of the rogue operation.
Today, Mkhwanazi appeared at the commission and instead of answering to the allegations levelled against him, he declined to respond and instead asked to engage with his lawyers.
Now popular on our screens and at the commission, the irritable Mkhwanazi said he had spent days preparing for his disciplinary hearing and had not had an opportunity to study the transcripts of Witness K’s testimony, in which he is implicated, that caused uneasiness on the faces of the commissioners.
He also put forward that he would also provide a written statement in response to these incriminatory allegations, of which I doubt it will be granted considering time constraints the commission is under.
Hearing continues.
Meanwhile, it has been established on good authority that Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala is ready to face trial alone in the R360m SAPS tender.
