UPDATE: THE passing away of Stanley “Screamer” Tshabalala continues to shock the country.
The legendary “Bra Stan or E Moholo Banna” died at hospital, following wounds shot he suffered during the unfortunate robbery at his home in Centurion, in March, according to his employer Orlando Pirates.
Newly minted Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, also sent his condolences to the family and friends of Tshabalala.
“The Tshabalala and Orlando Pirates families will furnish the details in due course. We urge the public to await the provision of the details for the arrangements going forward,” read a media statement from Bucs.
“A former Kaizer XI and Kaizer Chiefs player, he was also the club’s technical director between 1996 and 2001,” continued the press statement, as messages of condolences continued to pour in.
Synonymous for his smile, he had a close relationship with Bucs and PSL boss Dr Irvin “Skuveve” Khoza and CAF President Patrice Motsepe, all of whom originate from Orlando.
He once fell of a chair when Moroka Swallows player scored a scorcher of a goal against Downs, that made headlines the following day.
The stylish and dapper dresser earned the nickname “Screamer” because of his endless shouting in the field of play, of note when he mentored Mamelodi Sundowns, upon which he introduced what became a biblical hymn in townships ‘piano and shoe-shine’.
He also had a sport show on SuperSport anchored by Robert Marawa, that focused on yester-year players.
He was (75), and a father to the late kwaito star Tokollo and daughter Dineo.
Details on memorial and burial services are yet to be made, as Police await a post-mortem.
After a memorial service at the Grace Bible Church, in Pimville, Soweto, today, attended by well-known figures and the public, the cortege will leave for WestPark Cemetry, where ‘Screamer’ will be laid to rest.
