The sixth edition of the ET Radebe tourney launched in Soweto

THE 2023 edition of the ET Radebe Schools Tournament was officially launched at the famous Vilakazi Street in Soweto on Thursday.

The annual schools tournament, which sees a total of eight schools competing in Football and Netball in honour of Mzansi’s football legend, Lucas Radebe’s late mother Emily Radebe is now in its sixth year and is set to take place at the Diepkloof Sports Grounds on Saturday, 2 September this year.

The launch and draw of the tournament saw some of Mzansi’s most renowned football stars gathered to join in on the celebration of the growth of the tournament.

These included Siphiwe Tshabalala, Lucky Lekgwathi, Lovers Mohlala, Steve Sekano as well as Papi Khomane, who all spoke highly of the tournament and the work done by the foundation over the last few years.

Touching on the growth of the tournament, through its foundation Rhoo – as the former Bafana Bafana and Leeds United captain is affectionately known said the foundation’s success is as a result of its strong values of giving back and aiding the development of the community.

“We are quite excited about this year’s edition of the ET Radebe Foundation, because for the first time, we have roped in legends of the game who are from the very townships of these schools to be a part of the programme. Such innovation speaks back to our core objectives and values as the ET Radebe Foundation, which is empowering communities and inspiring future sports leaders” said Radebe.

In addition to its partnership with football legends, this year’s edition of the ET Radebe Schools Tournament has attracted a broadcast partner in the form of Vision View TV as well as corporate partnerships such as Bidvest Mobility, Lays, Discovery, Polo, PDC as well as government support from the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.

The launch concluded with the foundation conducting the official draw for both the football and Netball divisions of the tournament which were as follows:
