Uzalo celebrates its 7th season with new faces

It’s been seven years since Mzansi’s favourite drama Uzalo hit South African TV screens, building up a loyal following by delivering authentically South African stories, being a change agent within the community and displaying its commitment to expanding the television industry.

SABC 1 and Stained Glass remain committed to opening up the industry, and have been intentional about continually finding and casting new faces Uzalo has provided a platform for unknown actors, who have gone on to become award winning, household names. 

The drama has also been home to some of South Africa’s most established acting talent, who have played a major part in creating the magic that viewers have consistently enjoyed.  

True to form, this season features a formidable ensemble cast comprised of popular new faces to deliver exciting twists and reintroduces beloved Uzalo veterans to amp up the drama.

The alluring and enigmatic duo, Mxolisi and Mastermind played by Nay Mapsand Ntokozo TK Dlamini are back and have united once again to pull off what promises to be the biggest heist KwaMashu has ever seen.

The notorious “champagne life” King and Queen, GC and Thobile played by Khaya Dladla and Nokuthula Mabikahave returned from their glamourous city life to shamelessly flaunt their “successes”.

The torturously sexy temptress Nokuthula played by Khabonina Qubekais back with a bang as she enlists MaNgcobo’s help to pull off a headlining “Bonnie and Bonnie” heist which invigorates MaNgcobo and ignites a villain.

The intelligent no nonsense career woman Wenzile Nhlapho played by the incomparable Mbali Maphumuloenters the Uzalo world as Phelelani’s mother, with the sole intention of ending the relationship between Phelelani and Nonka, which she believes is a distraction steering Phelelani away from his dream of being a lawyer.

General Manager for SABC Television Content, Renee Williams statedthat: “We are excited for our audiences to experience this season. The Uzalo production team is brilliant and energised and promises a season of high stakes drama, riveting storylines, jaw dropping moments, creativity and skilful production“.  

We are also confident that our viewers are eager to continue experiencing authentic stories that represent their everyday realities in a way that resonates with them,” concluded Williams.

With each new season comes the inevitable bittersweet goodbye.

Stained Glass TV is honoured to have worked with some of the most talented actors in South Africa and continually maintains the utmost respect for them and their craft.

We bid farewell to the much loved and revered community leader Qhabanga played by the esteemed Siyabonga Shibe.

Head honcho and King-pin of KwaMashu MaNgcobo played by Dawn Thandeka King; and the judicious and unwavering law maker Captain Mpambani played by Jet Novuka. 

Stay tuned, these characters will exit the Uzalo world in an epic, high drama filled adieu.
