VAR or not- AmaKhosi to face Bucs in an appetising Nedbank Cup finale

THIS is the script that was never expected.

Kaizer Chiefs overcoming Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals on Sunday afternoon, was unexpected.

The packed Loftus Stadium, showed a good advertisement of football as both sides opened the game and went for jugular.

In soccer “ga gona therefore” as the late commentator Cebo “CC” Manyaapelo would attest.

Downs’ has been dominant over Chiefs, be it league or cup games for a while but that train was put to a halt on Sunday, as AmaKhosi did the unthinkable by booking another Soweto derby date against Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup on May 10 at Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban.

Bucs beat Marumo Gallants 1-0 at Orlando Stadium, earlier on the day.

Both Soweto giants finale will be preceded by the Soweto derby on May 3 at FNB Stadium.

Downs’ took the lead through a spectacular free-kick converted through Teboho Mokoena on the stroke of half-time.

The ‘Gold and Black’ fought relentlessly with goals from Wandile Duba and Ashley du Preez in the second half to secure a place in the final.

“We said only one thing in the change room: ‘This game is our game. “We have to win this game for the fans, for the board, for everybody. We have to prove that we deserve to be in the final,” the relieved Nabi was quoted during interview.

His counterpart Miguel Cardoso was unhappy and cried foul quipping “if the VAR was working in this country, that goal would have not stood”, as he took out his mobile-phone indicating the goal from Du Preez, to media

PSL and Nedbank will confirm ticket prices and kick-off time for the finale.
