With or without Dr Manamela and Dr Selebano the Life Esidimeni hearings begin this morning

Seeking closure. Retired deputy chief Justice Judge Dikgang Moseneke, will this morning begin hearings on the Life Esidimeni tragedy, with or without Dr Selebano and Dr Manamela who both resigned.

Dr Manamela who is a director of mental health in Gauteng , was suspended and this week handed over her resignation letter ahead of the hearings.

Last year during the cross examination Dr Manamela was “economical with the truth and a “defensive” witness ” as retired former deputy chief Justice Judge Dikgang Moseneke took her to the task.

Dr Selebano, the HOD of the Gauteng department of health, who was also suspended, tendered his resignation.

This morning Judge Moseneke and other legal representatives would try and mine the truth out as hearings begin from other witnesses.

Judge Moseneke will also decide if both Manamela and Selebano should face the might of the law despite their resignations.

NGOs were used to care for patients after the Gauteng Department of Health terminated the contract with Life Esidimeni‚ and about 1‚712 patients were moved out of Life Esidimeni homes.

The much awaited appearance at the hearings will be that of former Gauteng MEC for health Qedani Mahlangu.
