Soccer City has plans meted out for derby

PLANS, logistics and transport have been put into place to conscientious fans to come in large numbers, and other future games at various stadiums the Stadium Management of South Africa operates.

The workaholic Jacques Grobbelaar, CE at Stadium Management South Africa, was optimistic that they will deliver on their mandate to increase and capacitate stadiums.

“It is our aim to create a safe, friendly and hassle free environment for our ticket holders. In order to do this, we will ensure strict security procedures, open communication channels and easy to use facilities.

We would like to warn everyone that we are cracking down on counterfeit goods, illegal services and unruly behavior – we pride ourselves on creating memorable world class events,” he pointed out during media brief to outline plans ahead of the derby.

One of the challenges faced by The Soccer City Complex is the dissatisfactory game attendance in the PSL league. Some of the contributing factors include poor team performances, match day transport and the increased tickets prices.

To tackle this challenge, SMSA has created initiatives such as allowing 2 people into the stadium on one ticket purchased for the occasional game.

Happy hours with beers costing less than they would at local shebeen is another way to encourage fans to the stadiums early. In future, SMSA would like to offer patrons a free meal with the purchase of their tickets.

In terms of transport, SMSA is teaming up with the local taxi association to ensure that valid match ticket holders are transported to the stadiums cheaply and safely.

Spectators should be eager to get to the stadium early on derby day with the happy hour beer tent open from 13:00 to 14:00.

The following main taxi routes have been identified: R17 consisting of five associations; Baragwanath Chris Hani Route, consisting of four associations; South Eldos Route, consisting of four associations; Noord Street North & CBD Route, consisting of seven associations. 

Pick Up and Destination: Noord Street: MTN Taxi for the Bridge Taxi Rank; CBD: Bree Street Tax Rank Commissioner and Von weilligh Street taxi Rank and Von Brandis Marshall Street Taxi Rank; Baragwanath: Moroka Police Station and Maponya Mall Shopping Centre; Eldos: Kliptown Post Office taxi Rank; R17: Dobsonville Police Station; Meadowlands Police Station and Phefeni Taxi Rank.

The game kicks off at 3pm.
