This was confirmed by both family and Jozi FM’s management.
Mpho Mhlongo, the station’s CE said the family agreed to host the memorial in remembrance of their son and the public is invited.
It’s unknown if this will be a joint memorial of Mandla’s friend Oupa “Chom Chom” Duma, who was also caught in the fire.
President Jacob Zuma has also sent his message of condolences to the family.
“The country has lost one of its shining young stars in the entertainment industry, who passed away reportedly at the hands of cold-hearted criminals,” Zuma said in a statement on Tuesday.
“We convey our heartfelt condolences to his family. Our prayers and thoughts are with them in this difficult period. May his soul rest in Peace.”
A night vigil was held outside Meli’s Pub in remembrance of the two, on Tuesday.
The owner Meli Morewane, who was there on that fateful night when the two men died, said both the men had been good friends of his.
It all happened so quickly and in such a short space of time that he was still trying to wrap his head around it, he told the crowd of mourners.
But seeing the residents coming to help pray for the families made him feel that the men had been given a dignified send-off, he said.
“It makes me feel much better to see such a large presence of people, it just goes to show that those of us who are still here on earth have sent Mandla and Chom Chom (as Oupa was affectionately known) off with prayers.
“I just wanted to do it for the Jozi FM family and for the families of both men. I think it will make them feel much better because people came in numbers, to pray with them and for them.”
