Alleged school molester’s case postponed in Soweto for further investigation

A.B. Xuma Primary learners at school in Meadowlands. The alleged perpetrator’s case has been postponed for next week for further investigation by the Protea Magistrate Court.

The 57-year-old man was back in court following an initial appearance at the same court last week.

During the brief appearance, the small-built man kept his head down while proceedings got underway.

Magistrate Herman Badenhorst then postponed the matter to next week to allow for further investigation as well as to carry out an identity parade.

The State meanwhile, indicated it had interviewed 15 victims thus far and had obtained 8 charges, three of rape and five of indecent assault.

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi also attended proceedings, addressing the media on the progress of counselling for the affected pupils.

Orlando East community members were last week left shocked after initial reports emerged that 54 schoolgirls had allegedly been sexually violated by the patroller.

The number then rose from 54 to 87 later on in the week after more pupils reported that they too had been sexually assaulted.

The Department of Education dismissed the man while Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi removed school’s principal and her management team with immediate effect.
