Ramaphosa, in brief remarks to Parliament ahead of his first State of the Nation Address expected on Friday, said he would work hard “not to disappoint the people of South Africa”.
“The issues that you have raised, issues that have to do with corruption, issues of how we can straighten out our state-owned enterprises and how we deal with state capture (influence-peddling) are issues that are on our radar screen,” he said.
He will be the President until 2019 national elections.
The swearing-in was attended by his family- including wife Dr Tshepo Motsepe- a sister to mining tycoon Patrice Motsepe.
Matamela is a Vhenda name that means ‘one who evokes speechless wonderment’.
As expected various political parties have aired their views on the appointment of Ramaphosa- some labeling him a capitalist who will only look after his business interest and ‘white partners’.
The SONA will begin from 7pm in Parliament today (Friday 16).
Meanwhile, the Economic Freedom Front CIC Julius Sello Malema says, they will accord the new President respect and a chance to deliver his address.
