Khune's captain but his leadership skills raises eye-brows

Khune, who is Bafana Bafana number one, has been blowing hot and cold recently and the appointment has been questioned by some. This follows his questionable performance during Bafana crucial game against Burkina Faso for the AFCON 2012 Qualifier in Mbombela Stadium, which unfortunately lost out to make it to the prestigious tourney.

Khune, who was manning the posts, was reportedly faking injuries in an effort to frustrate the opponents time during the game. Does this augur well for leadership skills, you may ask? The club’s statement stated that their first-choice goalie will be supported by a committee of four players: Tlou Molekwane, Kaizer Motaung, George Lebese and Tinashe Nengomashe.

According to Sowetan, under-siege coach Vladimir Vermezovic and his technical staff decided to appoint the committee to assist Khune without consulting management, but chose to overlook experienced senior players like Siphiwe Tshabalala, Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Josta Dladla. Vermezovic is likely to face a grilling on the composition of the committee at the club’s media open day today.

“The club wishes to put it on record that Jimmy Tau did not send an e-mail to the club resigning as a captain and further that there was no bust-up between the head coach, Vladimir Vermezovic and Jimmy Tau as reported in the media,” the Chiefs statement added.
