"Bhele" rules but Botha ain't happy!

Veteran, who is in training with Bafana in Rustenburg for the World Cup Qualifier against no-hopers Ethiopia on Sunday, has had limited time to celebrate his achievements.

The 34-year-old striker won the PSL footballer, Absa player, the players’ player and the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot awards of the season, pocketing R600, 000 for his achievement.

“Bhele”  as he’s known amongst his peers scored 20 league goals and was nominated with teammate David Mathebula and Orlando Pirates defender Siyabonga Sangweni, who won R250,000 for the footballer of the year award.

Nomvethe’s coach Gordon Igesund won the coach of the year award.

Pirates’ striker Benni McCarthy received R50, 000 for the Absa-lutely Awesome Goal of the season award and additional R200, 000 for the Telkom Knockout player of the tournament.

David Radebe got R50, 000 after finishing as the top National First Division’s top goalscorer.

Treble champs twice Orlando Pirates got their cool R10m.

Other awards went to Pirates’ Oupa Manyisa (the MTN8 Last Man Standing award, which carried R150,000), Sundowns’ Nyasha Mushekwi (Nedbank Cup player of the tournament, R100,000), and SuperSport United’s Thabiso Nkoana (Nedbank Cup young player of the tournament, R25,000), Sundowns’ Wayne Sandilands (Premiership goalkeeper of the tournament, R50,000) and Ronwen Williams of SS United (Red hot player of the season, R50,000).

Meanwhile, Botha Msila one of Bloemfontein Celtic’s die-hard supporter is an unhappy ‘chappy’. This follows the snubbing by both PSL and Absa for not considering their work in rallying behind soccer in this country.

The flamboyant Botha -who is synonymous for attending other football matches, even when his team is not playing- has poured his heart out and took flak at both organizations for not honouring them as has happened previously.

“As fans we’re unhappy by the way PSL and Absa are treating us,” he said at the PSL Awards on Sunday.

“We toil the streets of this country encouraging the masses to attend soccer matches, spending our hard earned money and having sleepless-nights to fill the stadiums but at the end of the day, this is what we’re subjected to, “he said with a sad face.

“What is this?” he asked furiously.

“Its time we have serious talks with all concerned.

People should know we’re not asking for glory but recognition because without us, stadiums will be empty, sponsors will pull back and players’ won’t be motivated to give the kind of entertainment we want,” says the gatvol Botha resplended  in full Celtic’s regalia.

Both PSL and Absa were not ready to comment.
