The hospital is opposite the Jabulani Mall.
Unfortunately, none of the patients, nurses, doctors and staff were affected by the fire.
Some patients have been transferred to other hospitals.
This morning when we visited the hospital, fire fighters and staff were hard at work replacing what was affected and restoring machines.
The MEC for Health in Gauteng Dr Gwen Ramokgopha said they will appoint a team to establish what might have caused the fire, without giving time frames.
The department’s spokesperson Lesemang Matuka has asked the public to use other healthcare facilities in the vicinity until “further notice”.
Staff will also not be at the facility until it is deemed safe to return.
Bheki Mlangeni District Hospital was opened in 2014 and has 3 900 beds.
DA’s Jack Bloom said safety measures should be tightened.
“I really think that we need to look at safe precautions at all the hospitals especially during the winter season when the fire risks are up. We just had a terrible fire at the Gauteng health head office last year and we can’t compromise on safety.”
The hospital is not admitting any patients at present.
