#SowetoYouthGolfDay spearheaded by Soweto’s own TT Mbha goes ahead following disruptions

It happens today June 21, after it was canceled from its initial date June 16, by some irate Soweto residents.

The Soweto Golf Day is the brain-child of Soweto’s own businessman TT Mbha, who has not given up on his quest to create employment and build the township economy.

“The protests on 16 June 2021 disrupted a well-planned event aimed at adding value to the community and building the township economy,” TT Mbha was quoted.

The #TTMbhaCaddyGolfDay is open to 72 caddy golfers between the ages of 18-35, in and around Soweto who will compete against each other.

They will each receive a branded bib, a beanie, a meal and compensation for the day.

All caddy golfers must register at the Soweto Country club on a first come first served basis.

Acting Chief Marketing Officer, Brand South Africa, Sithembile Ntombela says: “It is the resilience in our DNA that propels us to think beyond the challenges, pressing on to find new and different ways during difficult times. It is an inspiration to work with PYP ambassadors that live by these values. TT Mbha is a true epitome of a great philanthropist,” she said.

Building up from old conversations lead by Justice Matshaya with the commissioner of the Sunshine Tour, a breakthrough was realised in the year 2017 when the Sunshine Tour Executive Director Selwyn Nathan agreed to build the legacy and instantly spear-headed the complete revitalisation of Soweto Country Club which included the 18 hole golf course, half-way house and club house, which in recent years had struggled for survival.

Today Soweto Country Club is fully integrated into the South African golf community in the form of hosting professional golf tournaments and corporate pro-ams, making it an economically viable asset of both Gauteng and African tourism.

With the support of the City of Johannesburg, the new Soweto Country Club serves as a prime flagship project of township economy.
