NLC offers a cool R2m to Alex FM

Following the looting and vandalism that plagued the country two- weeks ago, Alex FM was not spared and lost millions worth of equipments, as looters laid their hands on anything and everything.

Concerned citizens, companies came on board and rallied to help, bring back on air one of the oldest community station’s in ‘Sodom and Gomorra’ the name associated with Alex.

This week the National Lotteries Commission donated a cool R2million funding intended to help get the station back on air.

“The NLC has handed over aid to Alex FM in an effort to assist one of Gauteng’s oldest community radio stations to get back on track,” the NLC said in a statement.

“The NLC’s proactive funding of R2 million is intended purchase equipment to fast track their efforts toward full operation and providing information, education and entertainment programming to the people of Alexandra and beyond,” said NLC.

Isaac Mangena, chairperson at the station was overjoyed at the handover ceremony held on Thursday.

Established by the Alexandra Community Trust in 1994, Alex FM was based at the famous Pan African Mall, but now is broadcasting from an alternative venue in Sandton.
