The Business Day reported on Thursday that the union had dismissed the proposal as nothing new and one that was rejected by its members months ago.
Amcu has been on strike for more than four months over wage demands of R12 500.
Mineral Resources Minister Ngoako Ramatlhodi met with Amcu on Tuesday and producers on Wednesday in a bid to bring an end to the strike, but the report seems to indicate the talks have done little to move the union.
“The government proposal was not a new proposal. They introduced (an old proposal) that has already been rejected by our members three months ago,” the newspaper quoted Amcu president Joseph Mathunjwa as saying.
It is a quick turnaround from Mathunjwa, who was previously quoted in a number of reports as saying the meeting with the minister was a positive one and that the strike could not go on forever.
