Gauteng MEC for of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Molebatsi Bopape, is shocked and saddened by the tragic accident which involved the Sedibeng District netball team late on Sunday.
The team was on its way to compete at the Spar National Netball championships in Cape Town, from which they have now been forced to pull out.
Bopape has lamented that this unfortunate event comes at a time when we are supposed to be happy and celebrating women’s month including women’s sport. The MEC has pledged that her department will be in touch with the team and those affected to offer necessary support.
“On behalf of the people of Gauteng and the sporting fraternity we wish the players a speedy recovery. They remain champions despite this very unfortunate tragedy”, added MEC Bopape.
