Will Mashatile make a comeback at the ANC elective congress?

Thousands of delegates from across the province will debate pertinent issues in the province such as e-tolling, water shortages and the e-tolling billing system crisis..

Much of the current ANC leadership in Gauteng is expected to retain their positions.

Delegates had arrived at the Saint George Hotel in Irene this morning and ANC insignia and regalia are displayed throughout the venue.

E-tolling is expected to be one of the big discussion points with the focus on Gauteng Premier David Makhura’s review panel into the system.

Makhura is the outgoing secretary of the ANC in Gauteng and speculation is mounting that he will now be appointed deputy chairman.

Long-time ANC chair in Gauteng Paul Mashatile, will most likely return to his position while former health MEC Hope Papo is being lobbied for secretary.

More than 400 branches are expected to attend.

The first day of the conference saw guests including ANC stalwarts Winnie Mandela, Ahmed Kathrada, Sophie du Bruyn and Andrew Mlangeni in attendance. Also present were ANC deputy secretary Jessie Duarte, its treasurer Zweli Mkhize.

The conference was addressed by Deputy ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa.
