Oceans Mall opens in Umhlanga- much to pomp and ceremony!

THE new R1.3 billion Oceans Mall in Umhlanga Durban, which is part of the R4.3 billion mixed Oceans Development, launched the Platinum Walk in April.

The guest list read the likes of who’s who of South African celebrities and influential personalities.

The presence of His Majesty King Misuzulu Zulu KaZwelithini added a regal touch to the event, underscoring the significance of Oceans Mall as a major player in the retail and lifestyle industry.

His attendance was a testament to the importance of development in KwaZulu-Natal.

The development is part of business mogul Vivian Reddy’s dream to turn the province into a mega City, who was quoted saying “this is part of some of the projects that will follow in future”.

Former Premier and now minister of Public Works and Infrastructure Sihle Zikalala, businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize, media personality and choreographer Somizi Mhlongo, and Ndavi Nokeri, the current Miss South Africa, also grace the occasion.

The Platinum Walk section of the mall promises to be a major draw for fashion-conscious shoppers with 12 international fashion brands having invested over R300m in their stores.

They include Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, and Jimmy Choo to name a few.

Overall, the launch of the Platinum Walk at Oceans Mall is clear indication of the growing importance of the retail industry in South Africa. With over 3500 jobs created during construction and 1250 permanent jobs, Oceans Mall is poised to become a major player on the country’s retail landscape.
