AFTER some jokes and levelling the playfield, the ‘suspended’ Police Minister Senzo Mchunu appeared before the Ad Hoc Committee on Thursday.
He seemed relaxed but only just.
After being questioned by the evidence leader SC Adv Norman Arendse, Mchunu started showing signs of discontent and at times, going the route of Lt. General Shadrack Sibiya- in failing to answer questions put to him.
Arendse, questioned him on the letter on the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team that was purportedly authored by Mchunu, when, and how it came to reach some sources such as the controversial North West businessman Brian Mogotsi, and other close associates of Mchunu, amongst others.
“I prepared that letter long ago at my village, in my room, in a rondavel. Because in that village one can relax, unwind and put everything into perspective. That’s when I decided to write the letter on the discontinuation of the PKTT,” he said.
“This thing that it was not prepared by me, its a lie,” he insisted.
This follows the explosive reveal by the KZN’s Police Commissioner Lt General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi that on July 06 2025 that, Mchunu’s letter was not authored by him, but someone implicated in the claims of corruption and political interference and to dissolve the PKTT.
On his position on the PKTT, Mchunu indicated: “This is my statement as read and would want to elaborate by saying that I make it, I made it my duty after I got appointed that beyond interacting with individual police officers, especially the national commissioner as part of my orientation and interacting with them as groups.”
Lt. General Mkhwanazi, who has appeared at both the Madlanga Commission and Ad Hoc Committee, has claimed the move was made because someone had whispered that the team was investigating cases that might finger his associates.
Those associates implicate attempted murder accused tendrepreneur, Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala and controversial NW businessman Brown Mogotsi and others.
Mogotsi’s business property was raided on Thursday evening, during Mchunu’s appearance at in Parliament.
Its unclear what was searched and seized but according to Mogotsi, who decried the heavy-handedness of the armed Police, two of his employees gadgets were taken.
Currently Mogotsi is in Johannesburg, thus was not present during the raid, but has promised will meet the investigating team along with his lawyer today.
“Let me have my chance to present my case, its gonna be hell,” he said.
Asked if he knows or met Matlala, Mogotsi who was coy remarked ‘I’m a businessman, and he’s also a businessman’.
National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola also appeared at both the Commission and Ad Hoc Committee.
Mchunu continues with his testimony today from the Ad Hoc Committee.
