OVER 4000 revellers came through to experience the inaugural Wonder Fest at the Wonderboom National Airport, this past Saturday- that also coincided with its 90-year legacy celebration.
This was the first ever show to be held on the airport’s tarmac that was transformed into a vibrant cultural destination whose theme “The Flight Experience – Not Flying, But Elevating Culture” resonated amongst the fans.
2026 Metro FM Music Awards nominee (newly created Best Lekompo) starlet Shandesh landed from a chopper just behind the stage, as her popular ‘Chopper’ hit accompanied her arrival, igniting fans to lose their minds- figuratively.
City of Tshwane MMC for Roads & Transport, Tlangi Mogale, expressed appreciation to the many stakeholders who contributed to the festival’s success.
“We extend our sincere appreciation to airport management, the event organisers, emergency services, law enforcement and community partners who collaborated to make this event possible.
Wonder Fest is a powerful demonstration of how the legacy of Wonderboom National Airport can continue to support local traders while allowing visitors to experience the aviation and cultural offering of this unique venue.
We warmly welcome the artists, performers and musicians who joined us here in the City of Tshwane – particularly at Wonderboom National Airport – as part of launching this important milestone celebration.”
A throng of partygoers experienced culture, food, fashion and music on the runway- thanks to the likes of DJ Maphorisa, Sun-El Musician, Mörda, Vigro Deep, Ms Cosmo, Transmicsoul, Silly Bean, and Kyotic DJ, with the day expertly hosted by Mpumi Landan and Mfana Gogo and Shandesh of course.
Next year promises to be better and bigger, according to the organisers.
