Another NPA’s blunder sees taxi tycoon “Ferrari” and co-accused case struck off the roll

IF THE Judicial system is to be taken seriously by its citizens, the same people who are supposed to uphold and protect that law must take themselves seriously, FIRST.

This follows another blunder by the National Prosecuting Authority in the case of the controversial taxi boss Joel “Ferrari” Sibanyoni and three -accused being struck off the roll, that has the country scratching their heads for answers.

On Monday, Sibanyoni and co-accused had appeared at the Kwaggafontein Magistrate Court, Mpumalanaga, for extorting R2m from a local mining entrepreneur, whose identity has been withheld.

Surprisingly, prosecutor Mkhuseli Ntaba, failed to appear for the continuation of the bail proceedings at Court, resulting in the matter being struck off the roll.

This blunder led to court issuing a warrant for his arrest and to find him in contempt.

However SAPS said they have enough evidence against Sibanyoni and the other three-accused.

Colonel Mavela Masondo, SAPS spokesperson said they noted that the matter was struck off the court roll after Ntaba was a no-show.

“The SAPS Mpumalanga Organised Crime Unit maintains that it still has a strong case despite the latest developments. The organised crime investigation was conducted, hence all four suspects were arrested, and the case was initially enrolled, then the bail application process was initiated.”

Masondo added that “strong evidence” against the suspects regarding the matter remains intact.

“It should also be noted that reports alleging that SAPS investigating officers were not present in court are false. The investigating team arrived in court at 8.45am this morning (18 May 2026).”

Masondo said they will engage NPA regarding this matter.

Sibanyoni’s legal representative, former national director of public prosecutions (NDPP) Shaun Abrahams, cited that he would pursue a contempt-of-court application against Ntaba for failing to appear in court.

NPA’s Mthunzi Mhaga said they’re busy studying the judgment and will make informed decision going forward, as this did not sit well with Adv Andy Mothibi.

Another blunder by NPA, this has to stop.
