SOWETO’s finest Orlando Pirates booked their fifth MTN8 final spot by beating Golden Arrows 4-0 on aggregate on Saturday.
On Sunday, Mamelodi Sundowns’ overturned a first-leg deficit against Golden Arrows, winning 3-2 at the King Zwelithini Stadium, to level the semi-final tie 3-3 on aggregate.
Simply put- both sides will face-off in the MTN8 Cup final duel to be held on October 10- my birthday month- at the venue yet to be confirmed.
Early season humdinger for fans- why not if both clubs are on a rise in terms of performance and hunger.
Hunger- in that Bucs would like to write history in the SA football calendar for having retained the cup for the fifth time; yet for Downs’ who last won it in 2021, will add to their decorated silverware.
History has it that Bucs outmuscled Downs on penalties after a goalless draw in the 2023 finals. So, these two clubs apart from prestige they both possess, would be personal on the field of play.
Is it true that when two giants meet, history often counts for little- we await with bated breath…come Saturday 10 October.
