This follows the appointment of Muhsin Etugral as Orlando Pirates coach, on a three-year deal and will resume duties from July 1, 2016.
“I am excited about the prospect of working for Orlando Pirates Football Club. It’s an absolute honour to be at the helm of one of the biggest clubs in Africa‚” Ertugral said.
“This is a club with great history and tradition. I am looking forward to being part of the Orlando Pirates family and thank the president for the trust he has shown in me,” read a statement from the club.
Muhsin, who used to coach Ajax Cape Town and recently Mpumalanga Black Aces, opted for the offer after talks with new boss and former Ajax headhoncho John Comitis, did not agree on terms.
Pirates administrative officer Floyd Mbele said Ertugral is a coach who needs no introduction to South Africa football after working in the country for many years.
“We are confident that he will find all he needs to assemble an exciting and competitive squad ahead of the start of the 2016/17 season‚” Mbele said.
Although unconfirmed reports suggest Eric Tinkler may take the role of assistant coach, the two have not worked together and it remains to be seen if he’s future at the club is certain.
Muhsin also had a successful spell with Kaizer Chiefs.
Yes, this is coup that was unexpected!
