According to festival director, Ricardo da Costa and head of Soulistic Music, Amaru Da Costa, it was disclosed that an unforeseen prestigious and vitally pivotal career opportunity had been presented to Black Coffee.
da Costa explained that: “Black Coffee’s team approached us with this obvious dilemma and naturally our initial reaction tended towards the selfish. But as his longtime supporters, we also recognise that Black Coffee is no longer only South Africa’s to hold onto and benefit from.”
“Spring Fiesta fully supports and has encouraged Black Coffee to accept and embrace this unique opportunity which we believe will be seminal in further advancing and cementing his legacy on the global stage. Therefore we have made the decision to release Black Coffee from his scheduled performance at Spring Fiesta 2016.”
In response, born Nkosinathi Maphumulo, commented: “I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to the Spring Fiesta team for their unflinching and continued support, understanding and heartfelt blessing. I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to return to Spring Fiesta in 2017 to once again perform for all of my incredible South African fans.”
However, Black Coffee’s inclusion in the “Road To Spring Fiesta” campaign, a series of events taking place across Gauteng in the run up to Spring Fiesta 2016, remains unchanged.
Spring Fiesta also confirmed that AKA, alongside Riky Rick and Kwesta will be the first Hip Hop artists to feature on the festival’s main stage.
