Having adopted the organization for the past five -year’s the organizers have once again donated a staggering R40 000 to the South African Riding for the Disabled Association (SARDA).
SARDA is an organization which offers therapy classes to youngsters with mental and physical challenges based at Shongweni, Durban.
Now entering its ninth-edition, the event which comes with a cool price tag of R3m has been sponsoring the organization for the past five years’. Vodacom contributed R30 000 and Gold Circle R10, 000 up to date.
“It is astounding to see how the therapy offered by SARDA is changing people’s lives,” said Vodacom’s Executive Head of Sales and Marketing in KZN Dean Jooste.
The fit between a glamorous social and sporting event like the Vodacom Durban July and the largely unseen work that SARDA does is very strong, because at the centre of both is the unique relationship between man and horse,” added Jooste.
Since being adopted as the official charity of the Vodacom Durban July five years ago, the KZN SARDA chapter has made huge strides. It now has a big volunteer base that provide highly trained instructors and assistants to the classes attended by pupils from Browns school, the Open Air Schools, the children’s unit of St Anne’s hospital, Ethembeni school and Westpark School, in addition to a number of individual children.
With such a bold move it is anticipated that other private sectors would come on board and help other deserving charities which could be adopted as part of Social Responsibility Programmes.
In his own words, Jooste said we’re not only about fun but also focus on the needy.
The Vodacom July racehorse is scheduled for July 7 at Greyville Racehorse, Durban.
