Finance minister flatly denies sexual advances

THE FINANCE Minister Enoch Godongwana is under fire for alleged sexual matter.

This follows serious allegations levelled against him by a masseuse employee at the Kruger National Park, who alleged she ‘fondled’ her.

The minister was visiting the Park in the company of his wife Thandiwe, last week.

But he has since denied the allegations.

ANC’s head of Integrity Commission George Mashamba said though the body has not called Godongwana to appear before it, he is expecting the matter to come up at its Wednesday meeting.

“There are always discussions about current developments and issues. Comrades from different parts of the country will tell us what [they are]. I have seen snippets about the allegations, but beyond that I don’t know, but I think it will crop up tomorrow (Wednesday),” he said.

Various political organisations have called for the minister’s head.

The ANCWL has taken the allegations in a very serious light and league’s national task team co-ordinator, Maropene Ramokgopa, has urged law-enforcement agencies and the ANC to tackle the matter effectively.

Civil rights movement #NotInMyName secretary Themba Masango said: “We are aware that the finance minister Enoch Godongwana is yet to formally hear from the police on the charges of sexual harassment opened against him, and even though he has categorically denied the allegations we are appealing to the minister’s conscience, and urge him to vacate his public office until this matter has been dealt with.

“GBV and sexual harassment are a profound and widespread problem in South Africa, impacting on almost every aspect of life. As such #NotInMyName calls on law enforcement agencies to decisively deal with this horrific allegation swiftly.”

Godongwana sit on the ANC’s highest decision-making body, the national executive committee (NEC).

The matter will be discussed on Wednesday at the ANC’s integrity commission.
