“WE’RE HARD at work hence no time for posting or social media” says the training partner to Naakmusiq.
This was affirmed by Xolisani “Nomeva” Ndongeni, himself a world boxing champ, who addressed a large contingent of members of the press on Wednesday at the Venue, in Sandton.
Naakmusiq faces off with Cassper Nyovest for the much awaited and punted Celeb City boxing exhibition scheduled for Sun City next weekend.
The main bout is on April 9, but an exhilarating weekend experience has been pencilled in with incredible parties and musical performances from the 8th-10th April.
“We’re ready to rumble and one thing for certain is Cassper is going down and hard,” says “Nomeva”, from the TLB Boxing Promoters.
One thing I noticed at the briefing, the flamboyant Cassper was a bit nervous yet his opponent Naakmusiq born Anga Makubalo- resembled an unperturbed character and stern-faced. If it’s a physiological mind game their playing, we shall await the results next Saturday evening!
“Cassper has a history of boxing, whereas I’m a not. But when that opportunity presented itself I said bring it on. And today, I can safely tell South Africans that I’m now in love with boxing. Despite this being an exhibition, it teaches you discipline and being focused all times. You’re all alone and any split decision could either make you or break you,” says the relaxed Naakmusiq dressed in tracksuits, alongside DJ Tira from the right corner.
With more tickets added after being sold out in hours, Cassper made a declaration to his North West citizens “keya go betsa die laaitie”- I’m gonna teach this boy a lesson- sarcastically he told this reporter.
“If AKA and Prince Kaybee are chickening out, who does Naakmusiq think he is?” I will show him that a MoTswana boy does not backtrack when in his homestead. It’s all or nothing.
I’ve put in 15 hours of hard training, losing some kilos and sharpening my hooks and jabs. It’s a war,” says the bespectacled Cassper, in a cream-white suite and diamante watch.
“I spoke to my international boxing friends, that’s how serious I take this fight, on gym regimes and diets to follow. I’m in a good space and ready to teach this guy a lesson. I hear his trainer has said a lot behind my back, come next week Saturday, they will both lick their wounds, ek se jou,” says the Mahikeng born, who was flanked by DJ Sumbody on the left corner.
My next assignment should be Nigerian boys- either Davido or Burna Boy, they would give me a good run, since AKA and Prince Kaybee are cowards, continued Refiloe Phoolo, musician and entrepreneur.
Since the boxing exhibition is sanctioned by Boxing SA, they will use this platform to embrace innovation and creativity to conscientious the young boys and girls in joining boxing, especially from rural areas to emulate the likes of Dingaan “The Rose of Soweto” Thobela and the late world champ BabyJake Matlala, amongst others.
Over 45 entertainers such as Nasty C, Blxckie, DJ Sumbody, DJ Zinhle, Uncle Waffles, Big Zulu, Zakes Bantwini, Young Stunna, Daliwonga, Culoe De Song, Ayanda MVP, DJ Thuli P, De Mthuda, DJ Sphe, Naves, DJ Tira and others, will quench the thirst of fans who have been yearning for festivity as a result of lockdown.
