With the prospect of retiring soon, the celebrated jockey says a lot has still to be achieved before calling it a day, quipped Pierre Strydom.

“Striker” as he’s known within the horse industry was speaking at the launch of TAB betting station at the upmarket Emerald Resorts & Casino- Vanderbjil Park.

The petite but ambitious Strydom says:” With age catching up, very soon one would have to think long and hard about retiring because I’ve achieved what a jockey has to.

But at the same time, I would love to impart my experience with the up and coming jockey’s as part of my legacy,” says the six time champ, who has a total of 5072 wins under his belt, 72 of these achieved overseas.

Yes, I will take part in this years’ Durban July-perhaps my last, noted “Striker” who declared he will be going down the aisle in October, this year.

The new agent happens to be his fiancé.

The launch was graced by Phumelela executives, Emerald Resort & Casino
management and guests, media, Teletrack representatives, race enthusiasts, jockeys, horse racing trainers and owners.

“We are delighted to announce that the TAB betting station in our own Sports Bar is now operational after the official launch,” says Tanuja Gangabishun, Marketing Executive at Emerald Resort & Casino.

“Since the inception of Sports Bar in 2013, the goal was always to have a TAB on premises where patrons can be part of the magic of horseracing and sports betting.”

TAB is Phumelela’s tote betting division, one of only two licensed horseracing and tote betting operators in South Africa. In addition to horse racing, TAB has an exciting and popular range of bets on soccer and rugby.

Bets on other sports will be launched in the future, as part of responsible gambling!

Such initiatives seek to improve and increase tourists visit to the venue and to the area.
