Nissan dumps AmaKhosi!

This was confirmed today by the vehicle manufacturing company.

According to Dudu Mwelase -Group Communications Head at Nissan SA, this concluded the sponsorship of our local PSL team Kaizer Chiefs.

The reason behind the termination has to do with Nissan focusing on global soccer sponsorship strategy.

The sponsorship strategy includes focusing on the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) and continuing with Uefa Champions League.

Nissan’s sponsorship of AFCON is also in line with our growth strategy on the Continent, where the company has declared 2014 as “The Year of Africa”, read the statement.

Last year it was reported General Motors of SA-Chevrolet -would be announced as AmaKhosi’s vehicle sponsor but nothing has come to fruition.

GMSA communications manager Lunga Ntsendwana has refuted the claims, and said he knew nothing about talks taking place.

“The only international brand we’re associated with is Manchester United Football Club. That’s all.”

Chiefs’ communications manager Vina Maphosa’s although evasive and at the point of contradicting himself finally said, he would not offer comment as the matter is a marketing issue.

“I only deal with football matters.”
