But that could change, if the Maftown Celebration Week is anything to go by.
This pilot project kicks in from December 4 to 7 2014.
The Maftown Celebration Week’s mandate is to encompass sport, fashion, music, arts and entrepreneurial programmes, as part of promoting the said activities to the masses of Mahikeng and surrounding areas.
According to MEC for Arts and Culture in NW Tebogo Modise, the multi-faced extravaganza is to showcase the excellence the province pride itself with.
Leading musicians and comedians have been roped in to elevate the brand and conscientious Batswana to come in large numbers.
Maftown Celebration Week events are as follows:
Thursday 4 December 2014 – Maftown Comedy night at the Mmabatho Convention Center, opens up with David Kau, Loyiso Gola, Mpho Popps, Thapelo Tipps (Shampoo), Tall Ass Mo and Donovan Goliath.
Friday 5 December 2014 – Maftown Week Sports Fun Day at Montshiwa Stadium.
Friday 5 December to Saturday 6 December – Arts and Crafts Market at Mmabana Mahikeng Sports Grounds.
Sunday 7 December 2014 – Jazz Afrosoul and Motswako (JAM) Music Festival at Mmabatho Palms Hotel Sports Grounds, has billed Lira, Hugh Masekela, Don Laka, HHP, Khuli Chana, and other local acts.
Indigenous games and a friendly celebrity soccer game have been arranged, as well.
The four day celebration is made possible by Mmabana Arts, Culture & Sports Foundation and National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF).
Meanwhile, the annual sixties also happens in the same week, that translates to improved economic benefits and tourists visit in the province.
