Downs to pocket a cool R97.9 million should they win the CAF Champions League Final

HA ENE pula ya medupi (torrential rain) as the song went on Saturday afternoon.

The reason- Mamelodi Sundowns booked their place in the finals of the CAF Championship League after beating the Tunisian side Esperance 1-0 at the packed Loftus Stadium, Pretoria, in the second leg.

On aggregate Downs won 2-0.

Young and old, clad in Yellow and Green outfits, sang their voices out, as drums were beaten like a demon possessed.

Colombian striker Brayan Leon converted a penalty on 35 minutes, after the ball was initially saved by Esperance goalminder, to marshal Downs to the finals.

In the first leg, the Mamelodi outfit won by the same margin 1-0 in Tunisia.

FAR Rabat won on aggregate against Renaissance Berkane 2-1, though the latter won 1-0 away.

Downs’ meet Moroccan Rabat in the two-legged CAF Champions League final, with a record $6 million (R97.9 million) first prize on stake.

The first leg will be staged in Pretoria on Friday, May 15 and second leg in Rabat on Sunday, May 24.

This time, Esperance fans, who were placed at the far end of the top of the stadium, were well behaved as opposed to last appearance when they threw missiles on the pitch and one fan almost lost his life, had it not been for a quick intervention from Sundowns’ fan who rescued him.

It has come to our attention both fans are now best buddies and also attended the match.

Indeed, enele pula ya medupi!
