Paralympians ready themselves for the big hurdle ahead of them

WITH a long-standing commitment to sports and a belief that no journey is taken alone, Toyota is once again behind more than 200 Olympic and Paralympic athletes around the world.

The global “Start Your Impossible” campaign not only showcases how remarkable these athletes are, but also highlights the power of local communities rallying behind them, from the coaches and teammates to parents and fans.

In the 2024 campaign, Toyota aspires to ignite the spark of endless possibilities within communities all over the globe.

Commercials driving the campaign include “Send Off”, which highlights the impact of communities joining together to support their athletes; “Together Wins”, which showcases how, together, we can truly achieve the impossible; and “All For One”, which reminds us that when you have your community’s support, you’re unstoppable.

Global Team Toyota Athletes

On a local level, Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) is collaborating with three exceptional South African sporting heroes to join the Global Team Toyota Athletes Programme – Paralympians Puseletso Mabote and Louzanne Coetzee, along with Olympic swimmer Pieter Coetzé.

Global Team Toyota Athletes consist of athletes from various countries who have been selected because they share Toyota’s philosophies and values, such as challenge, continuous improvement, sincerity, teamwork, humility, gratitude, accountability and honesty.

Puseletso Mabote

“I was introduced to track and field at a very young age when I was given my first prosthetic blade. This was the point where I realised my talent, and I grew to love the sport,’ says Puseletso, a decorated Paralympian (T63 athlete: 100m, 200m and long jump), who has overcome challenges with grace and determination and is aiming for gold in Paris.

“I love that all the responsibility is on me, and I don’t have to rely on any teammate in terms of success. That said, I still need a team around me to achieve those goals,” he concludes.

Louzanne Coetzee

With her ready smile and unwavering spirit, Louzanne (T11 athlete and F11 marathon runner) is an inspiration to many. She, in turn, is inspired by friends and family who support her in her journey.

“I love running, so it’s not a sacrifice for me to do it every day,” she says of her hectic training schedule. “Travelling and getting the opportunity to see the world is also amazing,” she adds.

Pieter, who has qualified for the 100m and 200m backstroke, is proof of what dedication and passion for the sport can do.

“I am excited about the Olympics, but I just focus on what I need to do every day to be prepared when race day comes,” says Pieter. “I am very blessed to have my loved ones there to support me as they have throughout the years of training leading up to the Games,” he concludes.
