Pedigree at stake as Absa Currie Cup reaches boiling point!

The final takes place on Saturday at Emirates Airline (Ellis Park) Johannesburg, home of the table-topping Golden Lions.

Historical. The Absa Currie Cup is one of the oldest tournament’s in the history of domestic rugby. This weekend it features host Lions and Western Province in the finals.

The much awaited clash kicks-off at 13:30, making way for the Boks versus NZ in the World Cup semi-finals.

Rasta Rasivhenge has been tasked to officiate the finals, his first Absa Currie Cup, the South African Rugby Union (SARU) confirmed.

He will be assisted by Stuart Berry and Jason Jaftha on the sidelines, while Marius Jonker will perform the TMO duties.

The Currie Cup dates as far back as 1889. It is steeped in history and tradition and regarded as the cornerstone of South Africa’s rugby heritage, and the coveted gold trophy remains the most prestigious prize in South African domestic rugby.
