Tribute Concert celebrates 16 year's stylishly!

Today, the Tribute Concert is now synonymous within the showbiz calendar as one of a must–see live music concert in the country!

“Due to the overwhelming response we decided to opt for bigger and conducive venue to accommodate everyone,” says the age-defying bra Sam Mhangwani, one of the founders of Drakensberg Promoters. Leonard Sithole is also a partner.

At the launch this week graced by dignitaries, Minister of Arts & Culture Paul Mashatile, quoted Nelson Mandela when he said:” Arts is used to reach communities in far flung areas.”

True to that idiom, arts unite nations and this year’s Tribute Concert attest to that.

“South Africa has an abundance of talent which must be protected,” continued the Minister.

“The only way to do that is by establishing skills academies throughout the country, just like the one we will establish at the Moretele Park Precinct.”

“The concert is iconic which should be celebrated, so should be the founders,” continued Mashatile.

Close to 15 major artists have been billed for this year’s 16th concert, whose theme is ‘celebrating 16 years’ of local is lekker music’.

Catering for all ages- from Dr Malinga, Donald, Toya De Lazy to iconic bra Hugh Masekela, Stimela featuring Ray “Chikapa” Phiri, Thandiswa Mazwai, Caiphus “Katse” Semenya, academic Sello Galane, Mafikizolo, Solly Mahlangu, and Zahara, who gave us the rendition of what to expect at the Moretele Park.

Also included is the Alexandra big band featuring the living legend Barney Rachabane. Now this sounds like ‘seriaas’ business.

Tshwane local acts Peter Masilela, Ladies in Jazz, Carlos Djedje and others, are part of the supporting acts.

“Let us come and enjoy ourselves and avoid purchasing fraudulent tickets. These fake tickets kill our business,” pleaded Bra Sam.
