Universal Music honours top artists with Gold and Platinum plates

They honoured hardworking but at times controversial artists with platinum and gold plates respectively, at their offices in Rosebank.

The cool as a cucumber whom at times comes out as a ‘shy’ rapper, Tellaman born Thelumusa Samuel Owen’s was presented with multi-platinum that had clogged 7.3 million streams for his single titled Whipped.

Asked on the recognition he said did not expect that anytime soon “but I guess its about people recognizing one’s hardwork.

“R&B isn’t that big in SA as opposed to Rap hence I was taken aback by the award and popularity of the track Whipped.

 For me this is a movement as it means growth both locally and internationally,” he pointed out during interview.

Posed to him, whom would he like to collaborate with internationally, Telleman minced no words and quipped:” My goal is to work with anyone who fully understand and appreciate music and such stars include but not limited to the likes of T-Pain, Young Thug and surprisingly still look up to evergreen Brandy?”

“Plans are afoot to engage with said artists and who knows next year might be the ultimate dream. In February I will be dropping more singles. Ya, I’m in a good space.”

Other artists honoured included Caspper Nyovest (in absentia),Platinum for his single titled Move For Mem, with 5.4 million streams, Lady Zamar, This IS Love was certified Gold, with over 8.5 million streams, Nasty C- SMA was certified Multi-Platinum, with over 22.2 million total streams. Other notable absentees included all that is ‘black’ -Black Coffee and Black Motion.

Vusinator Ft. Soso & Killa – Gigabyte – also got the nod and commented:” (My king) it’s a bit surreal that my work has been recognized.

“Iyoo my heart is beating like drums so are my tears of joy. It’s hardwork nothing much,” says the Senaonae based producer from Soweto.

He continued:” (My king) despite my unfortunate background I made it, that means every kid from any hood can make it. Its possible and its upon us as the trendsetters to make it achievable for them,“ chuckled the (22) who also thanked both Soso and Killa for the hit Gigabyte.

Other artists recognized in the evening were Tresor and Msaki on their collab Sondela.

The dapper looking Tresor also mentioned he’s in talks with Zahara for another collab.
