A SPECIAL operation by law enforcement officers continues to make strides in reclaiming hijacked buildings to its rightful owners.
This week, SAPS, Property Hijacking Investigation Task Team, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) and Group Forensic & Investigation Services, made an arrest of ten suspects (nine males and one female) at a hijacked property in Rosettenville-South of Joburg
The suspects were detained at Moffatview Police Station. They appeared at the Booysens Magistrates Court and were charged for trespassing and contempt of court.
It is alleged that the property was hijacked by a group of Nigerian nationals in 2018. The matter was then reported to the City’s Group Forensic and Investigation Service (GFIS) department for investigation.
The owner the approached the High Court of South Africa where an eviction order was granted and executed in October 2021. However, the suspects forcefully moved back into the property.
The property has been secured and handed over to the security personnel hired by the owner of the building.

Spokesperson for the GFIS- Lucky Sindane says they will continue working with other law enforcement agencies to crack down on the illegal occupation of buildings.
“We will not deter to do the right thing. These illegal occupants must be aware that we shall win this problem of hijacking of properties in Joburg. It’s a war we’re prepared to fight pound for pound,” says Sindane.

Meanwhile, a female was also arrested for having broken into the offices of the City.
She was found in possession of hard-drives and other properties of the City, says Mayor of Joburg Dr Mpho Phalatse.
The perpetrator will appear in court soon.
