THE ONLY team to stop this fiercely moving train is Marumo Gallants, who face league champs Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup final, at Royal Bafokeng Stadium, Rustenburg, this evening.
Kick-off is at 6pm.
Gallants, a Limpopo based outfit, are the defending champions of this cup after winning it in 2021, then known as Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM).
The team is coached by former Downs’ duo Dan Malesela coach and technical director Harris “TV4” Choeu, who said they’re ready for the challenge come Saturday.
“Its all system go and everyone from managements, fans and back-room staff are behind the boys. As a motivation we have sorted issues of bonuses and all that,” says Choeu, who’s adamant they will beat Downs.
“We have the players to match Sundowns and they all know the responsibilities to be carried out,” warned Malesela.
So, with both on the touchline, they can easily plot the down-fall of this marauding train, that is Sundowns.
But it won’t be easy as the Pretoria side is garning for a treble.
Downs’ have won the MTN8, PSL title and today could make it a treble by winning Nedbank Cup.
Sundowns’ three wise men – Mngqithi, Rulani Mokwena and Steve Komphela, will have to put on a winning combination to thwart any threats from Gallants.
But the question is- who wants it more?
“It’s you know what almost three years since we had the opportunity to host spectators at the Nedbank Cup final so from that perspective we really excited to first and foremost have fans back at the stadium.
Current legislation allows us to have 50% of the venue capacity. Ticket sales have been going well but we hoping for a big final push ahead of this weekend’s cup final,” says Tobie Badenhorst, Nedbank head of sponsorship.
Off the field there will be a razzmatazz as fans look forward to entertainment in the form TKZee, Cooper and others.
