The announcement was made at the public broadcaster’s media brief yesterday.
Matlala is a consultant and banking executive.
Matlala, who has done consultative work for the SABC on strategies and project management, welcomed the opportunity to help the organisation reach its full potential.
“I appreciate that this honour and privilege is also a daunting challenge. I think there’s an opportunity globally to communicate a narrative about Africa and a very different narrative from the narrative that has been there before,” he told the media.
Matlala’s task would be to turn the loss making SABC into a profitable stable.
Interestingly, both Matlala and Motsoeneng did not respond who would in fact be in charge of the organisation in the light of the appointment.
Previous predecessor’s did not complete their terms and it will be of keen interest to see whether Matlala would stand the heat.
