Although safety concerns were raised, the 2024 edition of Netball League to be held in Jozi

CITY of Johannesburg Department of Community Development and Netball South Africa signed a Memorandum of Understanding to host the 2024 edition of the Telkom Netball League in Johannesburg.

The Telkom Netball League (TNL) stands as South Africa’s premier netball tournament, proudly sponsored by Telkom. The league serves as a platform to showcase the country’s exceptional netball talent, attracting coaches, scouts, and supporters of all ages.

Scheduled to take place at the Ellis Park Indoor Arena in Johannesburg, Gauteng, from 26 April to 23 June 2024, the 2024 edition of the TNL promises to deliver thrilling matches and exciting moments for netball enthusiasts across the nation.

The signing ceremony at the Joburg theatre was conducted by City of Johannesburg MMC for Community Development Lubabalo Magwentshu and Netball SA President Cecilia Molokwane.

Aligning with the City’s vision of becoming the Sporting City of Choice, the Telkom Netball League also plays a crucial role in the development of the girl child.

“Women’s sports deserve the recognition they rightfully deserve. The Government of Local Unity in the City is fully supportive of the Telkom Netball League,” stated MMC Magwentshu.

One of the concerns that Netball SA had with hosting the league in Joburg was the issue of crime. The City of Johannesburg is working tirelessly to ensure that residents of the City are safe and that Joburg remains a sporting City Of choice.

Later this year the same Ellis Park precinct will be hosting the much anticipated match between the Springboks and New Zealand, which shows the trust sporting organisations have in the City.

“The prestigious netball tournament that will take place in the City will be the first of many. We look forward to the economic spinoffs, improvement of our domestic tourism and job opportunities that will come,” added the MMC.
