Disabled dancers added into this years’ Battle of the Giants

Airborne. This is what to expect at this years’ 27th edition of the Battle of the Giants dance champs at Sun City from April 27 to 30.

This year promises yet another audiovisual spectacular as South Africa’s performing artists come together to showcase their talents,” says Raul de Lima, General Manager Sun City Complex.

This is in preparation for the 27th edition of the annual Battle of the Giants All Styles DanceSport Championships, scheduled for the revamped Sun City Complex from April 27 to 30 2017.

This international sanctioned dance sport (South African Body of Dance (SABOD) brings together countries from abroad over four-days to compete, interact and soak in the sun of the North West Province.

Competitors battle it out in a range of freestyle dance techniques including; Hip Hop, Popping, Break dance, Freestyle, Ballroom, Latin American, Slow Dance, Show Dance, Jazz, Modern, Ballet and Disco Dance.

Dancers range from under 9’s to over 35’s, from beginners to amateur or rising star level to championships level.

Added element is a Para Dance section that would allow able and disabled dancers join together in a routine to compete, so they too can go onto showcase their capabilities in world championships.

In the past year’s covering the show, parents and well-wishers literally bunk work and schools to rally their support behind the dance sport, were ululations and whistling are part of the competition.

Ahem, at times I’d put on a spectator cap and shout from the bottom of my voice in disbelief as the youngsters strut their stuff magically and exude confidence as they timed and choreographed their moves, I swear!

Individual dancers will have the opportunity to compete for titles and prizes in this year’s competition which is also one of the qualifier events in the World Trial Circuit programme.

After all, it’s the Battle of the Giants and not so little ones…

As expected the current Miss SA will be in attendance despite the controversy that has plagued the pageant.

Show off and top notch choreography will be galore at the dance championships.

Tickets available from Computicket from R120 per adult and R60 per child under 12.

Pensioners and members of Sun International’s MVG programme pay R90.

All dance entry enquiries must be directed to Bev Wood on 083 282 7734 or email bevwood@vodamail.co.za

With new innovations at Sun City, expect the attendance numbers to double, stru!
