Drugs, alcohol found in the car of Sekhukhune player at the accident scene

SHAUNE Mogaila, Sekhukhune United player, has handed himself over to the police following a tragic car accident in Tembisa on Wednesday morning that led to the death of a nine-year-old girl.

The incident occurred on a busy morning in Tembisa as residents began their day.

Mogaila, driving a BMW, collided with a Hyundai Grand i10 driven by the young girl’s mother, who was taking her daughter and a 13-year-old neighbour to school.

The crash happened around 7:30 am, tragically cutting short the life of the young girl on the spot. The mother and the 13-year-old boy were rushed to Tembisa Hospital with severe injuries.

In a shocking turn of events, witnesses reported that Mogaila allegedly fled the scene of the crash, leaving the injured and deceased behind. Later that afternoon, however, he surrendered himself to Rabie Ridge police.

According to Ekurhuleni metro police spokesperson Thabiso Makgato, Mogaila arrived with minor injuries, including a bruise on his forehead.

Upon inspecting Mogaila’s car, police allegedly found a disturbing assortment of substances, including bottles of “potent alcohol named Don Julio” and suspected illegal drugs, including dagga (cannabis) and a powder substance believed to be cocaine.

The presence of these substances has raised significant concerns about substance abuse, impaired driving, and the risks posed to public safety. Investigators are pursuing charges of culpable homicide, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident.
