Yet there are concerns from the fight’s co-promoter that Mayweather’s life is in a state of disarray and that he might be more distracted by his personal life than he has been since he went to jail nearly three years ago for domestic assault.
Mayweather, a 10-time world champion and world’s pound-for-pound best with a 45-0 record, is scheduled to earn at least $32 million for his 36 (or fewer) minutes in the ring against Maidana (Showtime pay per view, 9 p.m. ET Saturday).
He has earned a minimum of $105 million for his last three fights and likely a whole lot more from pay-per-view.
South Africa’s Metro FM after-noon show (Touch Down) hosts are attending the much publicised fight. And they’ve secured ringside tickets which did not come cheap.
The flamboyant show host Tbo-Touch reportedly has close links with Mayweather, thus earlier this year he visted the country to host clinics and auctioning of one of his belts.
Meanwhile, Mayweather has expressed a keen interest in buying the Los Angeles Clippers basketball team.
Clippers owner Donald Sterling was caught on tape telling his girlfriend not to “bring black people” to games.
The comments have caused an outrage in the United States and Sterling has since received a $2.5 million fine and life-time ban from all NBA games. The association will also try and force him to sell the team.
“Me and my team want to buy the Clippers. And we can afford the Clippers,” revealed the five-division world champion.
“I can’t come in here talking about Mayweather only going to get three percent or four percent. I got to get a solid percentage. But do we want to buy the Clippers? Yes we do. We’re very, very interested in buying the Clippers.”
“Donald Sterling, he’s been getting a lot of negative press. My thing is this: I don’t have nothing negative to say about this guy. He’s always treated me with the utmost respect. He has always invited me to games. Always.
“He’s always told me, ‘Floyd, I want you to sit right next to me and my wife.’ I don’t know about the mistress [V. Stiviano] , but I’m talking about him and the wife. But the mistress has always tried to send girls by me and I’d be like, ‘No.’ I was always like, ‘No, this is my guy’s seat.'”
However, the undefeated boxer isn’t the only keen buyer. Mayweather will have to contend with business magnate David Geffen, rappers P Diddy and Rick Ross, as well as former NBA star Magic Johnson.
